Attached is a NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING in accordance with the California Education
Code Section 60119, to address the sufficiency of standards-aligned K-12 textbooks and
instructional materials in English language arts including English language development,
mathematics, science including laboratory equipment in grades 9 through 12, history-social
science, foreign language, and health education. This is the public hearing where the district is
required to report the extent to which each school has a textbook assigned to each student in the
core subject areas as defined above and the availability of those texts for students to use in the
classroom and to take home.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the governing board of the Long Beach Unified
School District will conduct a public hearing, pursuant to Education Code Section
60119, to address the sufficiency of K-12 textbooks and/or instructional materials in
reading/language arts, including English language development, mathematics,
science, including laboratory equipment for grades 9-12, history-social science,
health, and foreign language aligned to content standards and consistent with the
content and cycles of the curriculum frameworks adopted by the State Board of
Education. Per Education Code Section 60119, sufficiency means that each student,
including English language learners, has an approved textbook, or instructional
materials, or both, to use in class and take home.
Members of the public are invited to comment during the public hearing on the
Long Beach Unified School District’s resolution regarding textbooks or instructional
materials sufficiency in the schools in the district, the reasons why a shortage exists,
if one is found, and the district’s plan to remedy any shortage. The public hearing
will be held in the Community Room of the Long Beach Unified School District
Administration Building located at 1515 Hughes Way, Long Beach, CA 90810 on
October 18, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
