Public Hearing

NOTICE: TIM GILMORE

Tim Gilmore has made claims that he runs and operates the LB Poly Alumni Association and the LB Poly Alumni and Community Association in order to raise funds for various purposes to benefit LB Poly and its students.  Be advised that Tim Gilmore does not operate with LBUSD Board approval as required by California Education Code section 51521.  His relationship with the LB Poly Alumni Association was terminated in 2012, but for years after that, he continued to tell people that he was the President of the LB Poly Alumni Association.  More recently, he tells unwary potential donors that he is the President of the LB Poly High Scholars and Champions Alumni Association or sometimes the LB Poly Football Players Association or sometimes the SAC/PFA.  To date, Tim Gilmore and the older associations have given extremely small amounts to Poly.  Those contributions have been small and sporadic with years going by between them.  His new associations have given nothing to Poly.  Tim Gilmore is not an alumnus of LB Poly High School and is not the president of the LB Poly Alumni Association.  He does not work with the Poly administration, plays no role in helping Poly with any of its programs.  The LBUSD strongly advises against making any charitable contributions through these organizations or through him.”

The Long Beach Police Department was made aware of an unsubstantiated threat of a shooting at a “Poly High School”. Detectives started investigating the matter right away and worked through the night.  The preliminary investigation found no credible threat to Long Beach Poly High School. The Police Department is working closely with LBUSD, and there will be increased police presence on Long Beach high school campuses, to ensure that students feel safe in their educational environment.  Anyone with information regarding a threat to a school is asked to call the Police Department immediately by dialing 9-1-1, or (562) 435-6711 for a non-emergency.

Anyone who has information regarding the recent threat is urged to call Violent Crimes Detectives at (562) 570-7250.   Anonymous tips may be submitted through "LA Crime Stoppers" by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), downloading the "P3 Tips" app to your smart phone (available at the Apple App store and Google Play), or visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.

This is a message from Chris Steinhauser, superintendent of the Long Beach Unified School District.

We have been alerted to unsubstantiated social media rumors that a possible shooting was planned to occur at Poly High School.  While these rumors are unsubstantiated, we take them seriously and are working with law enforcement to actively investigate.  You will see additional law enforcement presence at the school today.  We appreciate those who alerted us.  Your students will be safe and protected at school.

Chris

State law requires all public schools to create a School Accountability Report Card (SARC). The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about your child's school, which includes:

  • School Description and Mission
  • School Programs and Instructional Materials
  • Opportunities for Parent Involvement
  • Test Results
  • Safety Plan
  • Facilities

We invite you to view the School Accountability Report Card (SARC) for your child's school.  You can find your school's SARC here.
