LOWELL ELEMENTARY CARNIVAL

Volunteers are needed to help with the Lowell Elementary School Carnival being held Saturday, June 1st.  You may choose to work from 8am – 1pm or 12pm – 5pm.  Refreshments will be served to all volunteers.  Contact Becky Choppin at:  rebecca.choppin@gmail.com to sign up and receive detailed information.  Don't forget to bring your Service Learning Log!

 

COMMUNITY EVENT

TORCH RUN NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are needed for the Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center’s Annual Torch Run being held on Saturday, June 8, 2013.  The deadline to submit your completed Volunteer Registration form is May 24, 2013.  To obtain a form, go to:  www.torchrunonline.org and click on “Volunteer”.  Bring your Service Learning Log and include your friends!

 

TUTOR A HOMELESS CHILD

Just one hour a week can make a difference in the life of a child.  No experience necessary!  Training is provided.  Apply online at:  www.schoolonwheels.org.

 

COMPUTER TUTORS NEEDED

Long Beach Brethren Manor is a senior apartment complex with a large computer room and many seniors who are learning how to do e-mail, Facebook and how to surf the web.  One-on-one tutoring by student volunteers has been very successful.  If you would like to volunteer, they would love to have you!  For more information, call the Resident Service Coordinator at (562) 427-3374.

 

WRAP PROGRAM LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS 

WRAP is a free after-school program that focuses on academics and physical fitness.  Organizers are looking for out-going and enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy working with children.  If you are interested, download the flyer below for details and school contact information.

Lakewood Regional Medical Center is looking for teens age 16+ to become hospital volunteers.  If you are interested, please call Raven at (562) 531-3031 to schedule an interview.

30-MINUTE BEACH CLEAN UPS
 
Meet on the beach at Granada Avenue in the Belmont Shore area on the third Saturday of each month to participate in the city’s 30-Minute Beach Clean Up. Free parking, bags, gloves, refreshments, and door prizes are available. Such an easy and constructive way to earn Service Learning Hours!
 
 
 
MONTHLY SEAL BEACH CLEAN UPS
 
On the fourth Saturday of each month, from 11am-2pm, Seal Beach clean ups will be conducted. Meet at 1st Street and Ocean, next to Rivers End Café. Parking passes, bags, and gloves are provided. Such an easy and constructive way to earn Service Learning Hours! Bring your log! 
 
 

FISHER-PRICE BEACH CLEAN UP

Meet at the Lone Sailor Memorial on Ocean Blvd., between Orizaba and Redondo Avenue on the 4th Saturday of each month.  Service Learning Hours are given, as well as snacks and water.  For more information, contact Audrey and Tom at:  fpbeachcleanup@hotmail.com.

FRADULENT ORGANIZATIONS
 
Do not perform Service Learning Hours without first checking with Ms. Womack in Rm. 801. Not all organizations that offer hours are legitimate and do not meet our guidelines. Please be sure to get approval from her beforehand.
