What CIC is All About

CIC emphasizes an Honors college prep curriculum with a global approach infused into each course.

Since 1982, CIC has prepared students for university admission and successful global careers through a unique variety of AP, Honors and Accelerated courses, including Japanese and Chinese.

These languages have been identified by the U.S. State Department as critical (along with Russian, Korean and Arabic) to meeting the nation's needs in the 21st Century.

Since Fall 2015, a 4 -year Civic Leadership Pathway has begun to be integrated into CIC.

CIC is continuing to develop a second career focus area through a Global Logistics and Finance pathway with partnership ties to CSULB's College of Business Administration's Supply Chain and Operations Management path.

How CIC is Different

CIC has a dedicated faculty (teachers are assigned to teach sections that, as a whole, include only CIC students) of 20 teachers, 1 counselor, an asst. principal and a facilitator/program director.  Offering 7 classes per semester, CIC provides students the chance to select a general elective in addition to 5-6 core classes.

CIC has a 100% college attendance rate, 91% retention rate over 4-years and a near 100% graduation rate (having fallen short of 100% only in 2015-16 by one).

CIC strives to offer as many choices and options as possible, knowing students do NOT all share the same strengths.  As such, CIC students have the opportunity to take a range of courses Accelerated, Honors and APs to tailor the 4-year curriculum to their strengths.

In Grade 9, CIC offers AP Seminar and World Geography/International Relations, as well as Physics and Lab Physical Science Accelerated.

In Grade 10, CIC offers AP World History and Modern World History Accelerated, as well as Algebra2-Trig Accel. and Algebra 2.

In Grade 11, CIC offers Honors Chemistry and Chemistry 1-2, as well as AP US History and Honors US History. CIC also offers Honors Japanese 5-6 and Japanese 5-6.

In Grade 12, CIC offers AP US Gov't and US Government Accel, as well as Japanese 7-8 and Chinese 7-8, in addition to AP Japanese and AP Chinese.  In most years, we have offered an option to AP English Lit & Comp as well.

Students sometimes do have to make choices as the classes are predicated on class enrollment and district rules for sustaining sections.

Students in CIC have the unique opportunity in LBUSD to study Chinese and Japanese.  As an option to these languages, some students do pursue German or Native Speaker Spanish (students who actively use and understand Spanish in the home with family).  CIC does NOT offer Spanish or French.

See CHOICE Gr8 page for more details on the process of selection.
