Polytechnic High School

Tim Gilmore has made claims that he runs and operates the LB Poly Alumni Association and the LB Poly Alumni and Community Association in order to raise funds for various purposes to benefit LB Poly and its students.  Be advised that Tim Gilmore does not operate with LBUSD Board approval as required by California Education Code section 51521.  His relationship with the LB Poly Alumni Association was terminated in 2012, but for years after that, he continued to tell people that he was the President of the LB Poly Alumni Association.  More recently, he tells unwary potential donors that he is the President of the LB Poly High Scholars and Champions Alumni Association or sometimes the LB Poly Football Players Association or sometimes the SAC/PFA.  To date, Tim Gilmore and the older associations have given extremely small amounts to Poly.  Those contributions have been small and sporadic with years going by between them.  His new associations have given nothing to Poly.  Tim Gilmore is not an alumnus of LB Poly High School and is not the president of the LB Poly Alumni Association.  He does not work with the Poly administration, plays no role in helping Poly with any of its programs.  The LBUSD strongly advises against making any charitable contributions through these organizations or through him.”

10. ACTIVITIES: Poly student activities include over 100 on-campus clubs, an Association Student Body honored by the California Association of Directors of Activities as an Outstanding Activities Office in 2012, and a student body that upholds a tradition of excellence since 1895.

9.  TEACHERS: Poly’s faculty is the best, with an average of 15 years of experience, 14 National Board Certified teachers, and over 30 teachers are returning alums to work at their alma mater.

8.  MUSIC:  Poly’s Music program is the only one in Long Beach Unified School District to be honored as a 6 time Grammy’s Signature School. Our music program offers musicians’ opportunities to grow in a wide variety of areas including bands, orchestras, jazz, vocal, and piano.

7. SCHOLARSHIPS: Poly’s seniors earn over $30 million annually in scholarships and grants, by far the largest of any comprehensive high school in Long Beach Unified School District. Our students use these scholarships and grants to attend over 100 universities, including the most highly selective schools.

6. DIVERSITY: Poly’s boast one of the most diverse campuses in the nation. During the spring semester, the campus hosts an intercultural club fair that includes international eateries, cultural performances, and community outreach opportunities. We offer Chinese, German, Japanese, French, and Spanish as foreign languages courses.

5. AP PROGRAM: Poly enrolls over 1,300 students in Advanced Placement (AP courses, allowing them the opportunity to earn college credit before leaving high school. Last year, Poly administered over 2,900 AP exams in 31 different subjects with at 60% pass rate.

4. ATHLETICS: Poly athletes have amassed over 120 CIF Championships. Last year, over 40 students signed athletic scholarships. In 2011, Poly was chosen as ESPN’s best sports program in the nation. Last year, Poly’s Girls Track team made history by winning its 20^th CIF Southern Section Championship, most of any school.

3. COLLEGE AND CAREER READY: With over a 90% graduation rate and 58% A-G completion rate (exceeding district and state averages by 13%), Poly’s students are ready to compete and excel after high school.

2. PATHWAYS: Poly offers 7 pathway programs with a variety of Industry Themes and all of which offers a range of honors and AP courses. Our PACE and CIC programs are a nationally recognized honors program and our PAC-RIM program is CPA certified.
